Create a household

Learn how a household is created at signup and why it cannot be added later.

A household is created at signup, not added later. When the first person signs up and subscribes, WonderMoney creates a household around that account and makes that person the owner.

There is no way to add a household to an existing account. If you already have a WonderMoney account without a household, the household model does not apply retroactively to it.

Creating at signup

The household is part of the first signup flow. The first person to sign up becomes the owner and pays for the subscription. After that, the owner can invite other people to join.

Because the household is created at signup, the owner role is always held by the original subscriber.

The new-signup-only limitation

Joining a household is only possible during a fresh signup. Invites are redeemed as part of creating a new account, so you cannot add an existing WonderMoney account to a household.

If a second person already has their own account, they cannot move it into the household. They would need to complete a new signup using the invite link.
